HazMat is the short form for Hazardous Materials which refers to substances in quantities or forms that may pose a reasonable risk to health, property, or the environment and it includes substances such as toxic chemicals, fuels, nuclear waste products and biological, chemical, and radiological agents. Understanding certain basic principles of chemistry would also enable participants to better explain the possible risks involving containment systems. The modules covered will also provide the participants with a broad vocabulary in the language of chemistry which will assist them in mitigating incidents. For example, knowing how chemicals are named would allow them to quickly identify the chemical class and its associated hazards, allowing them to take immediate protective and mitigating actions. Safe work practices and emergency procedures when handling chemicals and Proper disposal as per the authorities’ requirement.
